PM Mobile Electric Power, provided primarily by mobile generator sets in the combat zone, is the lifeblood of the Armed Forces. For without it, all the technical wizardry of modern warfare -- the Weapons' Systems, the Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (C3I) Systems, and Logistics Support Systems -- are useless.
The Office of the DoD Project Manager- Mobile Electric Power's mission is to manage a coordinated Inter-Service effort for developing, acquiring and supporting DoD's mobile electric power generator sets -- to include establishing/maintaining a DoD Standard Family of MEP Generator Sets from 0.5kW portable generator sets to 920kW Prime Power generating systems.
To enhance interoperability, logistics support, and reduce acquisition costs, it is DoD policy that all Armed Forces use the Standard Family generator sets to the maximum extent possible -- and that DoD Components will obtain a Waiver Approval from PM-MEP prior to developing or procuring non-Standard generator sets.
